A town is placed touching a centre of Online Furness, on the eastern crest of a glaciated valley which runs obliquely through a peninsula. Good above a mile in the south lie the ruins of Furness Abbey, and quatern miles south west is the closest major town, Barrow-in-Furness. A front yard is typically reached per A590, a hyperlink road from either a M6 motorway to the Furness region.

Dalton railway station, which serves the town, is placed on the Furness Line, giving modems to Barrow, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands and Lancaster.
